Side Effects for Visiting a Chiropractor for a Migraine Headache
There is a lot of misunderstanding when it comes to chiropractic care. For whatever reason, chiropractic has been labeled as ineffective, unscientific, and even quackery. I want to share the results of some research done almost 18 years ago. You be the judge on whether chiropractic is legitimate.
In 1998, a chiropractic college did a study on the effectiveness of chiropractic care in the treatment of the most popular reason people come to Myers Family Chiropractic: migraine headaches. It is documented that in America, 18 million doctor's visits a year are because of migraines. 156 million work days are lost which results in $25 billion in lost productivity. Migraines are a big issue for Americans.
The researchers treated 218 patients with either chiropractic or prescription drugs for an 8 week period and then compared the results. The results show that the patients treated with only chiropractic care had 32% improvement with intensity of pain, 42% improvement with frequency of migraine, and 16% improvement in overall health. This improvement remained for 8 weeks after treatment ceased! The patients treated with prescription drugs had similar improvement in symptoms, but returned to pre-treatment status once they stopped taking the medication.
This was one of the first research efforts for chiropractic in the treatment of migraines. Currently, dozens of research campaigns have been conducted showing the effectiveness of chiropractic. If you or anyone you know is suffering from headaches, Myers Family Chiropractic can help. Dr Myers has been specifically trained in locating and gently correcting spinal misalignments that lead to headaches. The only side effect is better health.
