How Young is Too Young for Chiropractic Care
This is a commonly asked question in my office. Parents often wonder if their children should receive chiropractic care. First, lets discuss how the human body functions.
The spinal column is made of 24 freely movable vertebrae that protect your spinal cord. The brain controls everything in your body and communicates to the body through the spinal cord and the nerves that branch from it. When a vertebrae gets misaligned from its normal position (due to some sort of force), the vertebrae will compress either the spinal cord or one of the branching nerves. When nerve compression occurs, the nerves stop functioning normally and health of the body starts to decline.
Every human being has a spine, vertebrae, and a spinal cord. The real question is: "Do children get spinal misalignments." Lets think about that concept for a minute. Children are constantly playing, wrestling, jumping, twisting, falling, and getting bumps and bruises. The same forces that cause those bumps and bruises can also misalign the spine. Even a traumatic birth or even a C-section can lead to spinal misalignments due to stresses on the babies spine.
So the answer to the initial question is any child can get a spinal misalignment. It is never too early to be checked by a qualified chiropractor. Chiropractic adjustments for children are low force and very safe. Lets give those children an opportunity to grow and develop with a properly functioning nervous system. It will be a good investment to their future.
